Good Shepherd Preschool Chapel Time
Chapel is a short time each week to introduce the children to our church. It is fun! As the children arrive, we choose a child to be our candle lighter. We say the invocation together and invite the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to be with us. (In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN)
Next, we sing two or three Children’s Bible Songs.
Once a month, Pastor Carlson is our chapel leader, and the other times are led by the teachers.
One never knows what to expect at Chapel. We have the children sit in the pews for a flannelgraph story, or maybe on the floor so we can learn about Creation using a pan of sand, pitcher of water, and various trees, flowers, and animals. We have even journeyed around the church as Moses’ people, waiting for manna (popcorn) to be supplied by God. Whatever the story, we have fun, and it is looked forward to by the children.
Next is our offering time. Two children bring the offering to the Altar, and we pray for our two Indian children we sponsor each year. Our "adopted" children’s names are Reuben Paul and Geetha.
At the end, we have a child put out the candles, and we end with the Benediction:
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May His face shine upon you and give you peace.
Parents bring in a snack for their child’s class every month and a half. We encourage nutritious snacks and a variety of foods, and our snacks can be an adventure. Birthdays and party days are special occasions.
