Worship ~ Celebrate and responding to God’s love

Word ~ Ongoing learning and growing in the active and alive true Work of God

Witness ~ Expressing our belief in God to others

Work ~ Putting our beliefs into action

Warmth ~ Comforting, Caring, and Reflecting God’s love

Purpose of the Nursery

As parents seek to raise their children in the love and admonition of the Lord, the purpose of the St. James Lutheran Nursery Ministry is to come alongside parents by providing a safe, loving environment for their children (12 weeks to 3 years) as they attend worship.  We look for opportunities to foster in children a love of God and His Church by engaging in worship and fellowship.

Nursery Parent Information

Hours of Operation:

The nursery is location down the hall directly from the sanctuary, second door on the right.  There is a sign above the door.

To allow children and nursery staff to be engaged in worship the service is heard over a speaker located in the nursery.

Nursing mothers are welcome to use the facility.  Parents of babies under the age of 12 weeks are welcome to use the changing stations in the nursery.

Our nursery is staffed by two nursery parents and/or volunteers.  Youth, 12 years and older may volunteer and be paired with a parent and/or adult volunteer.  All nursery staff needs to be scheduled to work.  For safety and consistency, drop-in workers are not allowed.  Because our nursery is staffed by volunteers on Sunday morning, we ask that all nursery parents consider regularly volunteering in the nursery. To volunteer in the nursery please check the Nursery Ministry Page (under the Ministries tab) on St. James webpage at .

Parent expectations:

  • Volunteer in the nursery.
  • Provide items a child might need during their stay in the nursery: pacifiers with clips, diapers, wipes, a change of clothing, enough milk, juice or water for your child in bottles and/or sippy cups.
  • Please label all personal items including: clothing, bottles/caps and sippy cups.
  • Sign child in/out of the nursery.
  • Not to expose others to any illness. Children with a temp of 100 or greater should not be in the Nursery.

Parents are asked to discourage their child from bringing any toys from home.  These toys present hygiene problems, are a distraction to other children, and difficult locate among other toys.  However, an exception can be allowed if a child has severe separation anxiety and the parent feels the need for their child to have some type of comfort toy or blanket from home.  This item should be clearly labeled with the child’s name.
